TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) chairman Ahmad Shabri Lubis said that unidentified thugs intercepted the vehicle of Rizieq Shihab's supporters near the East Karawang toll gate on Sunday midnight, Dec. 6.
According to him, Rizieq and his family were leaving for a private dawn preaching event. Shabri stopped short of detailing the location for the safety of Rizieq and the family.
“Last night, IB (grand imam Rizieq) and his family, including his toddler-age grandchildren, were on their way to a family even at dawn while recovering,” said Shabri in a written statement on Monday, Dec. 7.
Shabri suspected the thugs spied on Rizieq and planned to cause harm as they opened fire targeting the car boarded by six members of the FPI security guards or Laskar FPI. “Six members in the car are still missing and being abducted by the unidentified thugs.”
Shabri called on the public to pray for the six Laskar FPI members and Rizieq. “It is clear that there was a shooting attempt on his (Rizieq’s) people last night, and to date, the six members are still kidnapped,” he said.
Earlier, Jakarta Metro Police Chief Insp. Gen. M Fadil Imran said his officers shot dead six supporters of Rizieq at the Cikampek toll road in the early hours of Monday, Dec. 7.
Fadil confirmed they stalked the FPI car after receiving information about a planned mass gathering today when Rizieq Shihab was scheduled for questioning at the Jakarta Police HQ over the crowds in Petamburan.
However, the police car was attacked by the FPI members, and so they took a stern and measured approach as their lives were threatened, Fadil explained.
