6 Killed in Clash between Police and Rizieq Shihab's Supporters

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police investigators shot dead six alleged supporters of Rizieq Shihab and members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) in the early hours of Monday or 00:30 at KM 50 of the Cikampek toll road. The police shot them for resisting the officers.
“The police officers, whose lives were threatened as they got attacked, took a stern, measured approach. Out of ten supporters of MRS (Muhammad Rizieq Shihab), six died,” said Jakarta Metro Police Chief Insp. Gen. Mohammad Fadil Imran at his office, South Jakarta, Monday, Dec. 7.
Fadil explained the shootings took place when the police carried out surveillance on them. Upon arrival at the location, the investigators' car was intercepted and attacked with firearms and bladed weapons.
In self-defense, Fadil claimed the six officers opened fire, resulting in the deaths of 6 FPI members. “While four others fled,” he added.
Due to the violent clash, Fadil said the officers' car was damaged yet none was injured. The police seized a number of pieces of evidence, including two firearms, a katana sword, and several bullets. The case was still being investigated.
