TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Body Shop Indonesia on Thursday launched a campaign urging for the passing of the sexual violence draft bill (RUU PKS) as not many corporations have publicly marked their stand in the fight against sexual violence.
Does the company’s firm stand on the matter pose any risk to their business? CEO The Body Shop Indonesia Aryo Widiwardhono on Thursday, November 5, reminds that the company does not only focus on its business aspect but also towards social aspects with great influence.
“Our philosophy does not only focus on sales. We will remain responsible and be useful for anyone,” said Aryo who made it clear that this campaign for the passing of RUU PKS aligns with the views of the company’s founder, Anita Roddick.
Their campaign was announced on Thursday in a virtual press conference entitled “Caring for everyone, protecting everyone. Stop sexual violence.” This comes as one of many activism events that Aryo claims is inside the company’s DNA.
Aryo believes that a business can also be able to positively affect society in general and that what they aim is not to only make people “look good, feel good,” but that they are also “doing good.”
The Body Shop Indonesia executive chairwoman Suzy Hutomo asserts that awareness on the issue of sexual violence must be a shared problem with general society and that it is not only under the radar of feminists.
