TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan invited Singapore to partner with Indonesia for the development of environmentally friendly energy, particularly hydropower. Hydroelectric power can be used to produce goods in an effort to overcome the impacts of climate change.
“Singapore can be an excellent partner for the development of this business,” said Luhut in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, November 4, 2020.
He extended the invitation during a virtual discussion of the 7th Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources. According to him, leaders of ASEAN countries began to realize the importance of various measures to deal with environmental issues.
Indonesia, he explained, is committed to contributing to environmental conservation and tackling the impacts of climate change. Many efforts had been made in the era of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, Luhut added.
Luhut mentioned that the government had an environmental restoration and community welfare program amid the Covid-19 pandemic, for example, mangrove rehabilitation and coral reef restoration, which are also part of the labor-intensive national economic recovery program.
Additionally, Luhut Pandjaitan said the government was striving to revitalize the Citarum River, which was previously called the world's most polluted river.
