TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Railway operator PT KAI recorded 240,823 passengers of long-distance trains (KAJJ) during the long weekend holidays from October 27 to November 2, 2020. The figure increased by about 66 percent compared to the previous week, from October 20 to 26, totaling 145,078.
KAI President Director, Didiek Hartantyo, said that seat occupancy also reached 90 percent of the tickets provided, or rose by 64 percent compared to the previous week.
“Even for October 28 and November 1, the ticket sales hit 100 percent,” said Didiek in an official statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 4, 2020.
According to him, the number of passengers on November 1 was the highest record since long-distance trains have been reoperated regularly on June 12, 2020. The favorite destinations were round trip routes of Jakarta-Yogyakarta, Jakarta-Bandung, and Jakarta-Surabaya.
During the long weekend holiday, KAI operated 88 trains per day on average, up by 20 percent compared to the previous week of 74 trains. Meanwhile, the total seats provided were 267,204, an increase of 20 percent compared to the previous week of 223,268 seats.
Despite the hike in the number of train passengers, KAI only sold 70 percent tickets of the total seating capacity to comply with the physical distancing order by the Ministry of Transportation.
