TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Southeast Asia's leading super app Gojek recently announced the rebrand and technology integration of its platform in Thailand, from GET to Gojek. This allows Gojek users in Thailand to enjoy the same features and interface as users in Indonesia, including seamless cashless transactions via the app. The super app’s digital payment service in Thailand, GETPay, also changed its name to GoPay.
Currently, the GoPay service in Thailand can be used to pay for all services including food delivery from GoFood, parcel delivery from GoSend and two-wheel transport from GoRide. Balance top-ups can be done via driver-partners, the SCB EASY, and K PLUS applications.
GoPay CEO Aldi Haryopratomo said in his statement that GoPay in Indonesia and Thailand carries the same vision, namely accelerating financial inclusion and cashless use to all levels of society in the region.
"Since the beginning, GoPay has aimed to increase financial inclusion and accelerate cashless adoption to every walk of life, similar to GoPay Thailand, an e-wallet service that can be used to pay for services in the Gojek application. We hope that the presence of GoPay Thailand can increase the cashless payments in Thailand and accelerate financial inclusion in the region," Aldi said in a written statement, Monday, Sept. 28, 2020.
Nevertheless, GoPay in Thailand is an independent entity, regulated by Bank of Thailand just like GoPay in Indonesia is regulated by Bank Indonesia so both companies are not interoperable. For now, the Indonesian GoPay balance can’t be used in Thailand and vice versa.
Moreover, the global integration of Gojek’s super app was not merely a form of brand integration, but also as a part of a long-term strategy to boost innovation for customers in Southeast Asia. The change from GET to Gojek was also marked by the change in the attributes of the partners from yellow to green, according to the Gojek color identity.
Gojek co-CEOs Kevin Aluwi and Andre Soelistyo, said: “Today marks a significant moment in Gojek’s journey, and in our long-term commitment to Thailand. We’re grateful to our incredible Thai team, headed by Pinya, who will lead us into this new chapter and for the many customers, partners and other valued stakeholders in Thailand who have supported us along the way. We continue to see immense potential for growth and impact in the country, and we’re proud and excited to introduce the Gojek experience to an existing and new generation of users in Thailand.”
Furthermore, the GET to Gojek transformation is accompanied by a new and improved look and feel, as well as multiple feature upgrades.
"By having a single app, we have the technological architecture and thousands of engineers from Gojek, which could help hasten the launch of new services faster with the seamless back-end system," said Pinya Nittayakasetwat, Country General Manager of Gojek Thailand.
