TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Water Resources Agency announced on Wednesday that it plans to procure 19 mobile water pumps to handle possible urban flooding that has threatened the capital city for the past several days.
The pumps, according to the agency, are each capable of sucking water up to 500 cubic meters per second.
“The 19 mobile water pumps are now going through the auction process,” said the agency’s member Juaini on September 23.
Jakarta currently has 478 flood pumps stationed across numerous areas that are prone to flooding, however, most of them are old units that have seen 10-year service and are in dear need of maintenance and repairs.
“There are not many that are broken, but the maintenance process is ongoing,” said Juaini.
