TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesman for the national Covid-19 mitigation task force Wiku Adisasmito said the central government did not have adequate information regarding the virus contact tracing in each region.
“Due to the fact that Indonesia has vast areas, we don’t have national report data yet to review what the tracing method applied by each region,” said Wiku in an online seminar on Sunday, September 20.
If the government relied on the data from the Health Agency, Wiku argued, it would not be enough. Thus, commands from each regional head are necessary given the country’s large areas and its archipelagic state. The key, he said, is the handling of public mobility between regions.
Wiku further opined that if the five provincial administrations with the highest Covid-19 cases could mitigate the public mobility well, the pandemic mitigation could be effective. The five provinces are Jakarta, East Java, Central Java, West Java, and South Sulawesi.
“That’s the key, we need to limit the people’s mobility because Indonesia has vast areas and is archipelagic. Regional governments have more control over the matter,” said Wiku.
