TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya Police spokesperson, Grand Commissioner Yusri Yunus on Monday suggests that violators of the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) to be subjected to criminal charges under the Criminal Code (KUHP).
“If harsh punishments are necessary, available laws include Law No.4/1984 on the pandemic spread, Law No.6/2018 on health quarantine, or if it is needed there is Criminal Code Article 212, 216, and 218,” said Yusri Yunus at the Metro Jaya Police headquarters on Monday.
However, the actual use and implementation of the law in an attempt to suppress the number of health protocol violators will be discussed first at a meeting later in the day involving people from the Jakarta administration, national police, and military (TNI) commands.
“Hopefully, we will know the actual field implementations and [the legal standing] after the meeting,” he said.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has officially reinstated the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) today on Monday, September 14, that will last for two weeks. This comes as a desperate attempt to curb the number of COVID-19 cases.
