TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that he understands wearing a face mask may be uncomfortable and irritating but asserted that it is far better than contracting COVID-19.
Today, the National Police, Indonesian Military (TNI), and the capital administration distribute 5 milion free face masks at Metro Jaya Police headquarters in a face mask campaign.
“We must acknowledge that wearing a face mask can be uncomfortable. But it is far more uncomfortable to be contracting COVID-19,” Anies said at the Jakarta Metro Police HQ, September 10.
The governor affirmed that the use of face masks is one of the effective ways to prevent the coronavirus infection. He, therefore, highly encouraged people and public figures with major influences to concede to the government’s face mask protocol.
“This [face mask] campaign must be supported and echoed, it needs a personality that is publicly revered to send that message,” said Anies Baswedan.
The face mask campaign is also executed across the nation in the preparation for the 2020 simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada).
