TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian COVID-19 task force spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito, on Friday, July 24, announced that the government intends to produce a vaccine for the coronavirus but in a way that is safe, precise, and quick.
“We need to mention that in terms of the vaccine’s development, the Indonesian government will prioritize these three aspects: safety, precision, and time efficiency,” said Wiku in Today’s press conference at the Presidential Office.
Previously, state-owned pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma announced that it has partnered with China’s Sinovac Biotech upon producing a vaccine for Indonesia. Sinovac had sent its vaccines to Indonesia on Sunday, July 19, and now is entering the third phase of clinical trials.
The safety aspect he referred to means that the vaccine must exactly be able to make people immune against COVID-19. The precision aspect means the government must make sure that it will create a vaccine specific to Indonesia’s condition.
The last aspect is that the government must quickly find the Covid-19 vaccine for Indonesia.
