TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The public prosecutor charged Rahmat Kadir Mahulette, one of the defendants in the case of assault against Novel Baswedan, with a one-year prison sentence. The same demand was also charged at another defendant, Ronny Bugis.
"We declare that defendant Rahmat Kadir Mahulette was proven guilty of aggravated assault which resulted in serious injuries," prosecutor Fedrik Adhar read the indictment at the North Jakarta District Court, Thursday, June 11.
The prosecutor considered that Rahmat Kadir committed a crime as regulated in Article 353 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, or in accordance with the subsidiary charges. The same articles are charged against Ronny Bugis.
Related to incriminating matters, the prosecutor argued that Rahmat's actions had damaged the honor of the National Police institution. Considerations that mitigated charges against the defendant included the fact that he had never been convicted before, admitted his actions, and was cooperative and had served as a police officer for 10 years.
Novel Baswedan is doused with sulfuric acid or H2S04 on the early mornings of April 11, 2017, in front of a mosque near his house in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. The assault caused damage to KPK senior investigator's eyes.
