TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Covid-19 Task Force cites a scientific journal by The Lancet, which stated that physical distancing can reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission by 85 percent. The journal states that the safe distance is one meter between one person and another.
"This is the best preventive measure, in can reduce the risk by up to 85 percent," the Covid-19 Task Force's Public Communications team member, Reisa Broto Asmoro, said on Thursday, June 11.
Reisa added that physical distancing is also the most effective way of lowering coronavirus transmission rate, especially in public spaces like mass transportation.
She reminded that Covid-19 is transmitted through droplets, therefore "everyone must wear a mask, especially when using transportation." If forced to use public transportation, Reisa urged avoiding touching door handles, elevator buttons, banisters, or items touched by many people.
Passengers are also reminded not to put their luggage or bags on chairs or floors, not using their mobile phones, and not eating or drinking.
"The goal is to avoid contamination, especially if the hands are not clean," she said.
