TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Transport stated that it has applied strict supervision to ward off homecomers in a number of checkpoints. Based on the evaluation of the enforcement of Minister of Transport Regulation No. 25 of 2020, the Ministry discovered a number of methods used by people insisting on returning to their hometown during Eid Al-Fitr.
In general, supervision on transportation is divided into three-phase. The first phase was conducted on April 23 until May 23, 2020. The second phase will be conducted on May 24 and May 25, 2020, during Eid Al-Fitr, and the third phase will be conducted after Eid Al-Fitr on May 26 until June 1, 2020.
Minister of Transport spokesperson Adita Irawati, said that supervision will be strengthened by adding more personnel in transportation hubs and conducting a periodic evaluation. The Ministry, according to Adita, will also impose sanctions.
Drives will be forced to turn back and illegal travels will be fined and have their vehicles impounded.
"We don't want to be caught off guard by many elements of the public, transportation operators, and other parties who insisted on homecoming and provide transports for homecomers," Adita said on Friday, May 22, 2020.
Meanwhile, Adita said that after Eid Al-Fitr, the Ministry of Transport will anticipate the counter-flow of homecomers by applying contra-flow or one-way traffic on toll roads heading to Jakarta, spraying vehicles with disinfectant, and managing rest area along toll roads. Relevant stakeholders will also provide towing services.
Based on data from the police, the number of vehicles netted by officers from April 24 until May 22, 2020, had reached 377 vehicles, with a total number of 2,225 homecomers turned back.
