TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National COVID-19 Task Force Head Doni Monardo said Monday that people under the age of 45 would be permitted to conduct outdoor activities amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which is deemed a solution to the high number of layoffs.
“We will give more leeway for this demographic to conduct activities to reduce the possibility of being laid off,” said Doni Monardo following a virtual meeting with President Jokowi earlier today.
He elaborated that this group was mainly allowed to conduct activities compared to their older counterparts due to the fact that the mortality rate of people over 60 years of age constituted 45 percent of COVID-19-related deaths.
Meanwhile, the death rate within the 46 to 59-year-old demographic is 40 percent.
Those in the older demographic are more prone to the virus as they are generally carrying pre-existing medical illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The task force widely considers the 45 and the underage demographics are stronger against the COVID-19 pandemic.
