TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) calls on people living in Jakarta Greater Area or Jabodetabek to be aware of extreme weather during the transition season, which is expected to last until early May 2020.
“Most Indonesian parts are now entering the transition season. There is potential for extreme weather such as tornadoes and ice rain during the period,” said the agency’s head of weather early prediction and warning, Miming Saepudin, in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 21.
Jakarta and Bogor, he added, may experience heavy rains in the afternoon, and it will continue until the beginning of the dry season in May.
Miming elaborated that downpours in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi will likely be concentrated in the south and east regions, such as South Jakarta, Depok, Bogor, and East Jakarta.
“Since the weather condition will still be happening in early May, we appeal to the public to remain vigilant and be updated on weather information from BMKG,” he remarked.
BMKG further reminded the people to be aware of dengue fever that often occurs during the transition period, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
