TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that Indonesia's trade balance managed to reach a monthly surplus of US$704 million in March, despite economic pressure from the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Surely this is happy news," BPS chief Suhariyanto said in an online press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 15.
However, compared to February, March's monthly surplus is smaller. The previous month, the surplus amounted to US$2.51 billion.
Meanwhile, the quarterly trade balance for Q1 is also at a surplus of US$2.62 billion. This year's Q1 trade balance is better than Q1/2019, when it was at a deficit of US$60 billion.
Throughout March 2020, exports inched 0.23 percent up to US$14.09 billion, while imports increased by 15.6 percent to US$13.35 billion.
