TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that social assistance amounting to Rp1 million per family will be distributed to poor and poverty prone families whose economies are affected by the COVID-19 outbreak in Jakarta.
This was revealed in a limited video conference with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Thursday, April 2, 2020. Anies hopes this program can be carried out immediately.
"We hope that this program can be executed immediately. According to our data, there are 3.7 million poor families and in vulnerable conditions. They are seriously affected and need support to be able to finance their life in Jakarta," he said.
Anies explained that Jakarta administration has held discussions with the central government, especially the Ministry of Social Affairs, prior to their decision to distribute the assistance monthly, to the targetted communities, over the next two months.
Currently, Jakarta is collecting data on these families, with Anies expecting the process to be completed in the coming 10 days.
"We need time to identify (poverty) prone groups. We have identified 1.1 million poor people in Jakarta, by name and by address, because they have been receiving help from us,” the governor stated.
Anies revealed that central government will contribute Rp4.567 trillion for this program, from a combined total of Rp. 7.4 trillion for 3.7 million families.
“The amounts we have resolved, this is also in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment. What is yet to be completed is the data on who (will receive the assistance),” Anies Baswedan added.
