TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that he is coordinating with the city's Covid-19 task force to take legal action against Jakartans who travel back to their hometown amid the coronavirus outbreak.
"We will discuss together with the task force regarding legal action that we can take so we can conduct it on a strong basis," said Anies during a live press conference at the City Hall on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
Anies reiterated restrictions to travel to other regions of the country are under the authority of the central government. However, since the past two weeks, Anies claimed that the Jakarta provincial government had called on the people not to travel back to their hometown.
"Do not leave Jakarta for the sake of all people. So it is not about ourselves but all communities," Anies underlined.
In addition, public events with mass-gatherings are also prohibited. Police personnel have been intensifying the patrol and dispersing people who gather in open spaces.
"We visit some places that we know there are gatherings, we demand them to disperse," said Anies Baswedan.
