TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi criticized Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s policy that limits the operations of public transports such as the MRT, Transjakarta buses, and LRT.
Prasetio argues that the governor’s decision to limit the operating hours of the aforementioned public modes of transport is something that needs to be coordinated with the country’s central government. He also said that the limited operations have caused a domino effect in the form of long queues in the stations and terminals of the three modes of transports.
“In fact, this policy has sparked passenger buildup. Officials must go to the field to reduce the buildup,” said Prasetio.
He also argues that this situation will also spark more speculations that could lead to panic amid the coronavirus crisis. However, he called for people to avert panicking and assured that it is the government’s responsibility to assure that mass-panic does not occur.
The DPRD speaker mentioned that the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) will hopefully soon be overcome through a synergy between government central and the Jakarta administration, especially after the government central had established a COVID-19 rapid response team.
“It is time for everyone to unite in facing this situation, which includes Governor Anies Baswedan,” said the DPRD Speaker.
