TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Pandjaitan reminded people to temporarily avert from shaking hands in preventing the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
He conveyed the message during his visit to Toba Lake’s Hotel La Bersa grand opening on Thursday, March 12. “We must all prevent the spread of this virus by avoiding shaking hands, maybe for the next month,” said Luhut.
Moreover, the minister urged people not to believe the misinformation and hoaxes spread across social media platforms and advised people to seek credible information regarding the coronavirus at official news sources or government websites.
Despite the growing number of COVID-09 cases along with the country’s first recorded coronavirus-related death, Luhut remains optimistic and believes that cases in Indonesia will not turn to the worst as some countries have shown.
“As it seems, the virus does not spread as aggressively in tropical conditions unlike other non-tropical countries,” he said.
