Coronavirus Mitigation; Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport Disinfected

4 March 2020 15:07 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday, March 3, has been disinfected in an effort to prevent the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Especially facilities that are in direct contact with the passengers.

“The entire airport community has applied a strict attempt to mitigate the potential spread of coronavirus,” said the Ngurah Rai International Airport’s Angkasa Pura I general-manager Herry A.Y. Sikado.

He added that this comes after the finding of COVID-19 patient who was known to be infected in Jakarta.

“This was pretty challenging as we disinfected the facilities during the airport operation,” said Herry who assured that the coronavirus mitigation team had not hampered airport activities.

Airport facilities that were disinfected include the baggage screening checkpoint equipment, check-in counters, trolleys, escalator railings, elevator buttons, boarding lounge seats, boarding gate, and toilet facilities. As well as the baggage handling area, children's area, internet corner, prayer rooms, tap water facilities, and waste bins.

“Airport users frequently touch these facilities. The disinfection will continue to be applied for two days,” said Herry. This adds to Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport’s mitigation against the spread of coronavirus besides the health alert cards and thermal scanners.
