TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto said there was nothing wrong with praying ceaselessly to ward the coronavirus off Indonesia. He said as a nation that believed in God, it was only fitting that prayers became a priority in the country.
“As long as we rely on the Almighty, this is the kind of result that we have. Why should we be ashamed of relying on the Almighty?” Terawan said at the Presidential Staff Office in Central Jakarta,Monday, February 17, 2020.
Until now, the coronavirus or the COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 1,772 globally, with those testing positive having reached 71,290. Although China is known to have contributed the largest portion to this figure, the coronavirus has infected virtually all large countries worldwide.
To date, Indonesia has been firm with its report that the country remains uninfected. Authorities said they had looked into 104 samples of suspected coronavirus cases and 102 of which had been pronounced negative.
Terawan also attributed the country’s zero case of coronavirus to prayers. “Let other countries protest, don’t mind them. It is our country’s right to rely on the Almighty,” he said.
Terawan added the country would also continue its main priority health program to fend off the coronavirus.
