10 February 2020 10:53 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Street brawl occurred again in Depok, the Metro Resort Police arrested a group of students who fight other students with sickles.

Depok Metro Police Chief, Chief Commissioner Azis Andriansyah, said that a group of five students on Friday, February 7, 2020, around 12:30 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), had ganged up two students from another school.

"They persecuted and ganged up two students from SMPN 8, resulting in the victims suffering serious injuries," Azis said when confirmed, Sunday, February 9, 2020.

Azis said the incident began when five students, namely Nur Muhamad Yusuf (20), DR (16), RD (16), BG (17), and ZR (14), were riding their motorbikes along the Jalan Raya Tugu, Kelurahan Tugu, Cimanggis, City of Depok. "When the victims and the perpetrators were passing by each other, suddenly they attacked," Azis said.

According to Azis, the victim who was 16 years old and wearing the uniform of SMPN 8 suffered injuries on the armpits and wrists. "One of the victims is in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment," he said.

While the perpetrators confessed that, said Azis, they were first being attacked and then they defended themselves by attacking back. "The perpetrator admitted that he rarely participated in street brawls. "He claimed he was attacked while on the road, because the perpetrators armed themselves with sickles, that is why they retaliated," Azis said.

But the police are still exploring the information of the perpetrators. So far the perpetrators have not suffered injuries that indicate they have been attacked first.

"The perpetrator admitted that he did not intend to search for [fighting] opponents and only wanted to pass by at the location while carrying sharp weapons. We are still investigating, "Azis said.

Meanwhile, to account for their actions, the perpetrators were charged with the article of persecution. "For adult offender, he got article 170 of the Criminal Code juncto Article 351 of the Criminal Code with a threat of 9 years in prison. While for underage perpetrators we implement the Child Protection Act, "said the Depok Police Chief.

Previously, a high school student with the initials MN (17) had died because of injuries to the neck and legs due to sharp weapons. MN died after being involved in a brawl on Jalan Raya Mochtar, Sawangan, Depok City, Thursday, January 30, 2020 night.
