TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Service Authority (OJK) deputy commissioner of public relations and strategic management Anto Prabowo asserted that his agency had no authority to comment on the assurance of the payment of Jiwasraya customers' claims.
“That’s under the owner [of the insurer], State-Owned Enterprises Ministry. But still, we have a role to facilitate the restoration process,” said Anto via a phone call with Tempo, Thursday, February 6.
Besides, Anto reiterated that the investigation audit and the legal proceeding was still afoot by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and the Attorney General's Office (AGO), respectively. “So if [the customers] want to find the responsible person, they can wait for the process in BPK and AGO.”
Anto admitted that his institution needed to improve the supervision, denying the allegation that there was no monitoring towards Jiwasraya. OJK, he underlined, had supervised the state insurer since 2013 upon the shifting from Bapepam-LK.
At that time, the financial service agency halted the financial reinsurance scheme while demanding the SOE Ministry to take sustainable ways to restore Jiwasraya. “That’s the owner’s responsibility. OJK’s role is only to facilitate and we keep doing so,” Anto said.
The deputy commissioner went on to say that the financial service agency had no authority to decide about the investment placement as it was under corporate’s management.
Previously, customers of Jiwasraya who fell victims in the company’s default expressed dissatisfaction over the result of the meeting with OJK as there was no solution for their losses. They demanded another meeting to be held on February 12, 2020.
