TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Subejo claimed the flood warning system worth Rp4 billion aimed at minimizing losses caused by natural disasters.
This digital-based disaster warning system (DWS) was installed to improve the people's preparedness in anticipating disasters. "So people will be vigilant and get ready (for evacuation) so that losses can be minimized," Subejo said when contacted in Jakarta, Sunday, January 19.
According to him, the system was not intended to prevent flooding, "But it reminds people to prepare for evacuation and save valuable items or documents from being affected by flooding."
Earlier reports suggested that the agency planned to install six sets of the system with a budget of Rp4,073 billion this year in six flood-prone districts, namely Marunda, Rawa Terate, Cengkareng Barat, Bukit Duri, Kebon Baru, and Kedaung Kali Angke.
"We will review comprehensively about the early warning system to anticipate disasters, including DWS as a means of the system," Subejo said.
In addition to the disaster warning system, Jakarta BPBD also prepared several strategies to disseminate inclsuch warningsuding the distribution of chain messages via Whatsapp groups and the deployment of officers in the disaster areas.
