TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney Generals Office (AGO) remains reluctant to comment on the alleged corruption in PT Asuransi Sosial Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia (Asabri). Chief of the AGO Legal Information Center (Puspenkum) Hari Setiyono, stated that the attorney general is still focused on tackling the corruption case in PT Asuransi Jiwasraya.
"Not yet, not yet. We are focusing on Jiwasraya first," said Setiyono in his office, South Jakarta on Monday, January 13, 2020.
Furthermore, the Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) has clarified that they are still waiting for the report on the case. "Up to this point, the police are still waiting on a report from the relevant parties. We follow the development of the case, in regards to the alleged [corruption] in Asabri," said Head of the National Police Headquarters' Public Information Officer, Grand Commissioner Asep Adi Saputra.
Meanwhile, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has said that they will open communications with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), in order to process the alleged corruption case. The communication is going to be opened due to BPK’s status as an institution with the rights to commence audits. "We have to communicate with the Indonesian BPK first. BPK RI knows about the audit results," said Chief of KPK, Firli Bahuri on Monday, January 13, 2020.
The alleged corruption in Asabri was first revealed by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, who has claimed that he has received information on an alleged corruption in Asabri. Mahfud later ordered for the information to be investigated further and resolved.
Asabri is an insurance company with social values, run compulsorily based on the law to provide financial protection for the benefit of the Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers, members of the Indonesian Police Force (Polri), as well as public servants working in the Ministry of Defense (Menhan) and Polri.
If the alleged corruption is proven to be true, Mahfud has stated that it will then need to be processed by the law system. "Asabri is for the ordinary people, soldiers, army members who have worked their hardest, left their homes for long periods of time. [If they are] only to suffer after they are retired; we can't allow that," Mahfud said.
