TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has officially instructed the city's officials to commence what he calls 'door-to-door' flood warning announcements across residential areas in Jakarta.
"I have instructed them to go from door-to-door," said the Jakarta Governor at the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry office on Friday, January 10, 2020.
According to Anies Baswedan, people rely heavily on information shared via mobile phone message services, which he claims is ineffective as he claims floods cannot be predicted.
"People will not be checking their phones or share information at dawn," Anies argues.
Anies also said temporary posts guarded by city officials will be stationed in flood-prone areas. These locations are slated as the early responders to assist residents in handling floods. Anies Baswedan also said city officials are already prepared to anticipate the extreme weather forecasted on January 12, 2020.
