Jokowi Departs to Natuna Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has left today, January 8, for Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province for direct inspection upon China's trespass. The President and entourage departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta.
The state head boarded the Indonesian Presidential Aircraft 1 at around 7:30 a.m.
The entourage includes Indonesian Military or TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Energy and Mineral Resources or ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif, Deputy Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Surya Chandra, and Presidential spokesman Fadjroel Rahman.
Per Tuesday, January 7, several Chinese coast guard vessels and fishing boats were still sailing in Indonesia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in Natuna waters, Riau Islands. The government through the Maritime Security Agency stationed two ships to the areas following the trespass.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry had lodged a diplomatic protest against Chinese coast guard violations in the Indonesian waters by summoning China's ambassador in Jakarta.
