TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Erick Thohir said his office was preparing a strategy to conduct restructuring of the currently troubled insurance company Asuransi Jiwasraya.
He assured that ministries and related agencies would consistently conduct the restructuring to avoid the potential of default. Jiwasraya's debt was reported to be more than Rp10 trillion.
"Well, we have some of the fund; of course not from Jiwasraya but from us," said Erick in Surabaya, Saturday, December 21.
The SOE ministry respected the House's recommendation by coordinating with related parties continuously. "But we and Finance Ministry will keep the available fund; which is quite a large amount of public fund," Erick said.
Erick said until 2006, the government had been consistently seeking for the solution to the matter faced by the state insurance company.
Last Wednesday, the attorney general's office announced that the state had lost Rp13.7 trillion following the corruption in Jiwasraya, which the attorney general ST Burhanuddin said, "it was just the initial prediction. It [the original value] is expected to be more than that,".
He explained that the insurance company violated some management principles regarding the management of their fund that was collected through an insurance product or Saving Plan. The violation led to state loss.
