TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo revealed his reasons for not setting a deadline for National Police Chief Gen. Idham Azis to solve the Novel Baswedan case.
“There is a new finding that leads to resolution. So I did not give more time. But I told him to immediately announce [the perpetrator],” said the President at Mulia Hotel Jakarta on Tuesday, December 9.
He explained that the police’s technical team will expose the finding in the near future and ensured it will not take months. “I don’t talk about months. If I say immediately, it means within days,” the former Jakarta governor added.
On Monday, Idham Azis was summoned to Jakarta Merdeka Palace to submit a report on the development of the acid attack case against senior Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.
National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Muhammad Iqbal said President Jokowi did not give a deadline for the police to solve the case. “Please be patient, the technical team will reveal the case soon. We have secured very significant evidence and clues,” he added.
According to Iqbal, the National Police had been serious in their investigation, which was evident in the police’s questioning a total of 73 witnesses as well as looking into 114 chemical stores and 38 CCTV spots. He said the CCTVs were even investigated not only at the National Police’s headquarters but also at the Australian Police.
