TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police-Criminal Investigation Agency’s Deputy Inspector General Antam Novambar says religious preacher Jafar Shodik has been named as a suspect.
"That is confirmed," said Antam on Thursday, Dec. 5.
Jafar Shodik Alattas was arrested earlier at 01:00 Indonesia Western Time (WIB) on Thursday, December 5, at his house in Cimanggis, Depok.
His arrest follows a video showing the preacher making a harsh and hateful comment about Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and comparing the former MUI leader with a "pig" during a public lecture held in Singkawang, West Kalimantan on January 2, 2019.
National Police Brigadier General Argo Yuwono says Jafar Shodik currently faces prison charges for violating the law on Electronic Transaction and Information (ITE Law).
