TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The violent stormy rain that hit Sragen, Central Java, on Wednesday, November 20, caused the collapse of a pavilion-like structure at the SMK 1 Miri state vocational high school and injured 22 students.
The Sragen Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) confirmed that the incident, fortunately, did not claim the lives of the students who were trapped under the building’s rubble.
“There were 22 injuries, all of them are students of SMK 1 Miri,” said Sragen’s BPBD head Sugeng Priyono on Wednesday.
According to him, three of the injured students are suffering from broken bones but is being taken care of at the Karima Utama Hospital while other students are also treated in hospitals across the area.
“The building that collapsed was a pavilion within the school’s complex. At the time of the heavy rainfall, the students were playing and sheltering from the rain under the pavilion,” said Sugeng Priyono.
