TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) VP Corporate Secretary, Miranti N. Rendranti said to Tempo on Monday that President Jokowi has voiced his commitment to fully support the upcoming Mandalika MotoGP race slated for 2021.
“The President is committed to supporting [the event],” Miranti.
This follows a meeting between Jokowi, DORNA management, and ITDC board of directors at the Bogor Palace earlier this year on March 11.
The statement from the ITDC is a response to the statement issued by youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali who said that Mandalika is only claiming to be the future host of Indonesia’s first attempt to host a street-circuit race for MotoGP. Amali, in his work visit to Surabaya, stated that there has been no official confirmation that the race will be held in the special economic zone (KEK) of Mandalika.
The ITDC asserts that the construction of the Mandalika Circuit will continue to be pushed as it has entered the ground working phase with 30 percent progress. Meanwhile, the asphalt-laying will commence in January of 2020.
Both DORNA CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and Sporting Director Carlos Ezpeleta have been at the location to monitor the circuit’s construction phase.
