TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi said that the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres has voiced appreciation for Indonesia’s non-permanent membership in the UN security council during the tenth ASEAN-UN Summit.
“The meeting saw UN’s secretary-general especially appreciating Indonesia’s role as a bridge-builder, especially since Indonesia’s non-permanent membership in the UN security council,” said Minister Retno in the press release issued by the Presidential Secretariat’s press, media, and information bureau on Sunday.
Entering its 52nd year, ASEAN is deemed able to maintain peace and become the motor for stability within the region. Not only that, the release stated, ASEAN’s economy has also seen above-average growth compared to the global economy.
The Minister also said that the President asserts that a strong synergy between regional organizations such as ASEAN and the United Nations is dearly important to build a strong region that eventually contributes to world peace.
In order to maintain that goal, President Jokowi announced Indonesia’s commitment to prioritize encouraging organizational synergies throughout its tenure as the UN’s non-permanent member.
