DPR's Commission I Comments on Working with Prabowo Subianto

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I Speaker, Meutya Hafid, said that she is ready to work together with the commission’s partnering ministries. This includes the Defense Ministry led by Prabowo Subianto.
Meutya expressed that DPR’s Commission I - that oversees the country's defense, overseas affairs, and informatics - highly respects President Jokowi’s prerogative in determining his Cabinet members.
“Commission I will surely work in tandem with each and every one of our partners. This includes Pak Prabowo, the former presidential candidate who is now the current Defense Minister,” said the former television anchor at the Senayan parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Prior to Prabowo’s naming as one of Jokowi’s state ministers, he was known as the country’s political opposition figure who competed with President Jokowi in two presidential elections of 2014 and 2019.
Meutya Hafid asserted that her Commission will overlook Prabowo’s past and partner with the Minister with great respect as they do with other State Ministries. However, she assured that DPR Commission I will continue to monitor Prabowo’s performance as a State Minister.
