TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The labors’ protest held in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) headquarters that saw thousands of workers’ unions had run peacefully from 13:00 today.
In his written statement, President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, announced that today’s protest is participated by labors from 10 provinces.
According to his data, the workers come from regions such as: Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Semarang, Batam, Medan, Banda Aceh, Bengkulu, Makassar, Manado, Gorontalo, Banjarmasin, up to Ambon.
Their protest lasted roughly three hours that was filled with chants and songs that mainly criticizes three elements in the Indonesian Labour Law (UU Ketenagakerjaan) No.13/2003 which rejects the spiking premiums of the state-healthcare program or BPJS and demands the promised revision of the Government’s Decree No.78/2015 on wage.
The peaceful street protest is a contrast to other protests the past several days. Today’s demonstration even saw police members gathering and singing together with the protesters.
