TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Activist and the founder of documentary maker Watchdoc, Dandhy Laksono, has been named suspect by the Metro Jaya Police’s special criminal investigation directorate after being picked up at his house last night and spent 4-hours of questioning at the headquarters before being released.
“His status is now a suspect. He has been released and will not be jailed until further process. He is not under custody despite his suspect status,” said Dandhy’s lawyer Alghiffari Aqsa at the Metro Jaya police HQ this morning, September 27.
Alghiffari revealed that his client underwent stringent questioning with more than 40 questions, including questions regarding his posts on Twitter.
“I was asked about my Twitter posts, what motivated me, what it meant, who ordered me to tweet. Basically the standard verbal process I guess,” he said.
Dandhy was arrested at his house located in Pondokgede, Bekasi, on Thursday night, September 26, 2019, at around 23:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). His lawyer said that Dandhy is being charged for what police deemed “hateful” Tweet on September 23, 2019, on the conditions in Wamena and Jayapura, Papua.
The surprised Dandhy said that an arrest would usually be done only after an accused has been summoned by the police and the authority would then conduct an arrest after a person is deemed uncooperative.
“I’m sure that I am cooperative. But from here I am intrigued to know what I am being charged of. I really would like to know what the substance of the problem is,” said Dandhy Laksono.
