TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister AM Fachir announced that Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan is set to attend the inauguration of President-elect Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and vice president-elect Ma'ruf Amin on October 20th.
"Vice President of China will attend the President's inauguration," said Fachir at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Friday, September 20, 2019.
The VP's attendance was notified by Chief of China's International Liaison Department Song Tao during a meeting with Jokowi on Friday, September 20, 2019.
The meeting on September 20 marks their second encounter following the inaugural meeting on April of 2016.
Fachir said that Wang Qishan's attention to Indonesia's domestic political situation shows that the relations between China and Indonesia are doing well and might suggest that both countries will engage more frequently in vital and strategic issues.
Jokowi has been elected for another term in office following the heated presidential election earlier this year by garnering 85.6 million votes (55 percent) over their rival, Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno.
