Expanded Odd-Even Policy; Transjakarta, KRL Users Increase

11 September 2019 13:57 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Transportasi Jakarta or Transjakarta has recorded an increase in the number of its passengers during the first-day implementation of the expanded odd-even policy on Monday, September 9. The figure reaches 892,000 passengers.

“We have booked a new record. [The passengers' number] reaches 892,000 people,” said the city bus firm president director Agung Wicaksono on Tuesday, September 10.

Agung explained the hike has started since the trial period and continued to increase after the implementation. “During the trial days, it amounted to 840,000 passengers daily on average,” he added.

Meanwhile, before the policy is disseminated or in April 2019, the highest number of passenger was 773,816 per day. Therefore, Agung is optimistic the total number of bus users will pass one million in line with the route expansion.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan claimed the number of public transportation users reached 1 million people on the first day the policy took effect.

Other than the Transjakarta, commuter line or KRL also saw a higher number of passengers, at 1,034,210 people.

Even though the figure is not different than Monday last week, the commuter line operator PT KCI spokesperson Silvyanne Purba said the daily figure jumped by 7.4 percent than that of throughout 2019, which was 913,072 people.

However, city urban transportation MRT did not see a hike in users' number. Last Monday, only 86,000 people boarded MRT. The spokesman Muhammad Kamaludin assured that the number will increase over time. “We will further create promotion related to this policy,” he remarked.

The expanded odd-even policy has started to take effect on Monday, September 9 and affected a total of 25 roads in the capital.
