TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the president’s MPR RI 2019 Annual Session speech, Joko Widodo or Jokowi chaffed at state ministers and House of Representatives (DPR) members who often conduct overseas visits.
“I remind my fellow executive members to be more efficient. What use does it serve to hold overseas visits to obtain the information that we need if it can be done through our smartphones,” said the President today at the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) 2019 Annual Session.
"I think that is relevant to members of the DPR,” smiled the president.
Other than poking fun at the tendency to conduct trivial overseas visits, the president also called for lawmakers to consider being efficient in creating regulations that would push many people to do good deeds, innovate, and help grow the country.
“The performance measures of lawmakers must be changed. It is no longer about the number of laws or decrees passed, but how far have those laws served the people together with the nation’s interest,” Widodo reminded.
