TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary-General of Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani, admitted there is internal dissent regarding the party’s political stance; to maintain as opposition or join the government. Muzani said such different views are common in the party.
He, however, stressed that the party would remain solid after the chief patron Prabowo Subianto makes a decision. “All cadres will unite when Prabowo comes to a decision,” said Muzani in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, July 18.
Reports said Prabowo would gather the party’s advisory board on Friday evening, July 19, at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java. The forum would discuss the party’s future political steps after the 2019 presidential election.
According to Muzani, Prabowo as the board chairman has an authority to take a stand but he usually gathers inputs from the internal party before doing so.
In addition, the former general commander of the special forces also takes suggestions from parties supporting him in this year’s election, as well as from volunteers and supporters, into consideration.
“Pak Prabowo has an authority to announce his decision tomorrow, a day after, or next month. But he thoughtfully pays attention to all opinions from the public, supporters, and coalition parties,” Muzani added.
Other than talks about the party’s next political position, the session would discuss issues on the 2019 legislative election, particularly positions that will be filled with Gerindra cadres in the legislative.
