TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Human Rights Commission, Komnas HAM for short, said it found irregularities in the death of one victim of the May 22 riots. According to Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam, there were differences in the condition of the victim when he died at the scene and when he was taken to the hospital.
"His condition should be the same between the time he was taken to the hospital and when he died," Anam said in his office in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 9.
Anam did not elaborate in details about the irregularities he found in the victim's body. He said that Komnas HAM is still investigating the pieces of evidence obtained, which the agency will use to determine whether there were any human rights violations during the riots.
"The more mysteries revealed," he said.
The Commission, he said, is still trying to complete the investigation files on the May riots. The problem faced by Komnas HAM right now is the difficulties to find eyewitnesses. However, Anam is targeting they will have fewer documents to work with by the end of July or early August 2019.
Earlier, the police said there that nine people died during the May 22 riots. Eight of them were allegedly killed by gunshot wounds, while one died because of blunt traumas.
