TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apart from the discussions on Jakarta’s May 22 riots’ alleged human rights violations, Amnesty International Indonesia also talked about the joint investigation on Novel Baswedan’s acid attack that happened over a year ago.
“The main agenda is surely the May 22 riots. But there is also Novel Baswedan’s case,” said Usman Hamid, Amnesty Internasional Indonesia Director at Metro Jaya Police headquarters on July 9.
According to Usman, the discussion of the two incidents is related to the fact-finding search team’s tenure that officially ended on July 7. The team was exclusively formed to handle the case.
Usman hoped the meeting, which was attended by the Metro Jaya Police Chief, would eventually produce the report on the development of Novel’s case.
“We certainly hope that the investigation would produce a solution and significant development from the team under the leadership of the police chief,” said the Amnesty director.
The fact-finding team that was tasked to solve Novel’s case admitted that they are facing difficulties upon solving the acid attack on one of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigators.
“It’s not easy to investigate such a case. For those who say it’s easy, please give us clues,” said Hendardi, one member of the fact-finding team from Setara Institute on Monday, July 8.
The investigation on Novel’s case is officially complete but the report has yet been publicized. They plan on presenting their findings to the Indonesian National Police Chief Tito Karnavian this week.
