TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of workers of several companies under Krakatau Steel (IDX: KRAS) staged a rally in front of the company's IT building in Cilegon, July 2. They protested KRAS' plan to restructure businesses and lay off employees.

After delivering their demands, the protesters marched to the office of Cilegon City Government and the city center.

The workers demanded Krakatau Steel to reconsider their corporate decision, fearing it would lead to massive layoffs.

"We are concerned about the layoff. What will happen to us and our families? The company must think about this," protester Ipin Saripudin said.

The workers are also demanding that the Cilegon City government and the Banten Regional government interfere in the matter to prevent layoffs.

According to one of the protesters, Muhari Machdum, as of June 1 there were 529 outsourced workers who were let go by the company.
