TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Constitutional Court (MK) has decided to reject the lawsuit submitted by presidential candidate pair Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno. The decision was read by MK chief of justice Anwar Usman in the trial that officially concluded the election dispute trial proceedings on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
The Constitutional Court's decision stated that Prabowo's allegations regarding a massive, systematic, and structured electoral fraud cannot be proven and lacks legal basis.
Prabowo's camp officially filed the lawsuit in May 2019, which accuses incumbent candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's camp of misusing its budget by increasing the wages of Indonesia's entire civil servans during the presidential election campaign. Prabowo's camp argued that the move was an abuse of bureaucracy.
The lawsuit also alleged Jokowi's camp of limiting the freedom of the press, mobilizing state apparatus, and discriminatory treatment against Prabowo – Sandiaga Uno supporters.
The MK judges rejected all of these claims in the court trial that lasted for several days. Among many of Prabowo camp's evidence that were rejected include the numerous online news article links used as arguments in the trial.
