Jakarta Anniversary; 5,000 to Participate in 2019 Jakarnaval

24 June 2019 12:05 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThousands of participants will enliven Jakarnaval that will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2019. The parade is a part of events to celebrate Jakarta 492nd anniversary.

Jakarta Tourism and Culture’s head of destination and marketing division, Hari Wibowo, said that participants came from the city’s five municipalities, one district, communities of big motorcycles or locally known moge and antique cars as well as artists.

“The parade will start at 3:30 p.m. from the City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka. The convoy will be kicked off by marching bands and followed by colossal dances, jumping steel art, and a parade of customs vehicles,” Hari explained in Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Sunday, June 23.

The parade participants will walk from the City Hall to Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI Roundabout) and then heading to Monas (the National Monument), while the parade of customs vehicles will move from the City Hall to HI Roundabout and straight to Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Sudirman. The route is set to show the new face of Jakarta.

“This year’s Jakarnaval is themed Wajah Baru Jakarta (The New Face of Jakarta), so we choose Thamrin - Sudirman route because the new face of Jakarta can be seen there, JPO (pedestrian bridge) in Dukuh Atas and MRT will be like our showcase,” he added.

A total of 30 customs vehicles have been registered to join the parade. All icons of Jakarta will also be displayed, starting from ondel-ondel, Nusantara costume, up to its traditional culinary food that is centered in the City Hall and Monas.
