TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded the Directorate General of Correctional Services to keep its promise upon transferring high-profile convicts of corruption to the super-maximum Nusakambangan Correctional Facility (LP) / Prison.
The initial transfer plan, according to Febri, is the commitment of the Directorate General upon improving the country’s criminal justice system following a KPK sting operation that took place at the Sukamiskin correctional facility.
“The initial plan is that the transfer of high-profile corruption suspects can commence starting this June,” said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah at the KPK headquarters on Monday, June 17.

However, the transfer will involve certain procedures such as the number of high-class corruption convicts that needs to be submitted and discussed by the Directorate General prior to the transfer. The approval of an inmate’s transfer will be decided by the KPK.
The transfer of corruption convicts to a maximum-security prison is also mainly to prevent the reoccurrence of high-profile inmates illegally spending time outside of prison walls.
“So there would be no more encounters of corruption convicts [outside of prison],” said Febri who quipped about the recent case where former House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto was known to have spent time outside prison.
