Sri Mulyani Hopes Eid Can Give Push to Economy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani held an open house at her official residence on Jl. Widya Chandra 2 on Eid Day, Wednesday, June 5, 2019. In the event, the minister said she hoped public consumption during Ramadan and Eid would positively affect domestic economy.
Among them, she said, were those pertaining to the construction of toll road infrastructure and connection roads in regions on Java, Sumatera and Sulawesi and Kalimantan islands.
“If we see that many have resorted to land routes, it is hoped that the spillover to the economy in each destination city will increase,” Sri Mulyani said.

Sri Mulyani added the spillover effects were mostly attributable to travelers who departed from Jakarta to other cities. It was predicted that people would engage in other activities including visiting tourist attractions or having meals together with their families.
The former World Bank managing director said during Ramadan up till Eid the country’s macro-economy was stable with relatively strong growth, which according to her had become the arsenal in managing the nation’s economy.
