TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The ride-hailing company Grab Indonesia has launched online-based three-wheeled taxi or bajaj service dubbed GrabBajay on Thursday, May 23. The corporate Head of Public Affairs, Tri Sukma Anreianno, said that the tariff was relatively affordable for the public.
“We set the rate at Rp3,000 per kilometer for normal condition,” said Tri Sukma when met in the launching event in Gedung Arsip Nasional, West Jakarta, Thursday, May 23. In certain condition, such as during rainfall, the high fare will be applied.
Tri Sukma ensured the tariff was set between the rate of GrabBike and GrabCar. So the lower tariff or the flag-fall of GrabBajay is Rp9,000, and that can also be adjusted based on the condition
At present, a total of 60 drivers of the iconic city transportation have joined in the application network and more will be encouraged to participate in the future, Tri Sukma added. He recorded around 10,000 bajajs are operated in Jakarta.
Tri Sukma explained that GrabBajay has different features than other Grab services. It can accommodate two passengers and shopping goods from shopping centers. During its initial operation, GrabBajay will only cater special routes, such as Kota Jakarta train Station, ITC Mangga Dua, Mangga Besar Station, Sawah Besar Station, and Pasar Baru.
The land transportation head of Jakarta Transportation Agency, Masdes Arouffy, said that the launching of GrabBajay was part of the public-private partnership (PPP) between Jakarta provincial administration and the private company. He said that Grab Indonesia helped to preserve regional transportation.
“Through Grab, we are able to data how many registered bajaj in Jakarta,” Masdes added in the same occasion, adding that bajaj drivers must assure their vehicles pass the vehicle-roadworthiness test (KIR) and have valid documents.
